Life is too short not to learn from the mistakes and the successful ways of others. Most rich people today have suffered and struggled through many situations in life.
But today, they enjoy great financial freedom. Usually, these affluent people came to crossroads and had to take important decisions. Many of the things they did in their early years contributed to their eventual outcome as successful people. It important that we all learn from the examples of those who have gone ahead of us.
In this publication, I wish to share with you a few secrets that I believe have helped an incalculable number of people to become the most respected and influential ones in our societies today!
Principle #1: Start small.
In life, I have noticed that most people do not want to begin in a small way. “Oh! I need a colossal amount of money to start my dream business”, is usually said. Most people make derogatory remarks and sneeringly speak of small works. However, these same people do not know how to start one themselves. Do not be afraid of small beginnings. Primarily, you will benefit from all the experiences you would acquire in your small beginnings. The experience you acquire in your small beginnings will greatly spur you on in difficult times when your business becomes big. Do not rush to be successful! It is easier to lose some few dollars than lose huge sums of money when starting a business.
It easier for you to recover when you lose two hundred dollars than if you make that same mistake with two hundred thousand dollars. It’s simple! Smallness is an indispensable stage in the world of business. If you are able to succeed with a small amount of money, you can succeed with a larger amount of money. Congeal your faith, avoid people who would chortle at you and scorn you, and hang out with those who believe in you. Run not away from small beginnings. They are life’s training ground for you. That is how rich people had their success education – in the school of small beginnings.
Principle #2: Stay humble.
It is said that the way up is the way down. A tree becomes a tree by first placing its seed deep down. There are so many people who want to start out on top! Believe me on this: the only job that begins from the top is grave digging. Smiling…! You will discover from history that most people who were or are now financially independent once served at the lowest level in their profession. Example of such people are Brian Tracy and Chris Gardener. The best entrepreneur is someone who has been a follower for many years. If you have done menial jobs before, you are more reasonable with your subordinates when you become a proud owner of a firm. You understand what they are going through and do not give unfeasible commands. The humble in heart operates like the serpent. They undertake their activities quietly without attracting any unnecessary attention, but before one could say Jack Robinson, they are in the limelight. Stay humble!
Principle #3: Use your slingshot.
When I was a little boy, I never missed Sunday school. Not even once. This was because of the interesting Bible stories our tutor tells us. One of my favorites was the David and Goliath story. Today, these stories provide me with priceless success lessons. One of them is the principle of using one’s own slingshot. In the story of David and Goliath, little David had an opportunity to have his greatest breakthrough by fighting the giant, Goliath. Before the big fight, he was to make one of the most important decisions of his life; to wear Saul’s armor or not! He decided against wearing Saul’s armor and opted for his slingshot with just five smooth stones. He used what he was best at using and did not try to impress anyone by wearing the glamorous armor.
Investing is never risky. It is usually the investor that makes investing risky when he or she does not know and not sure of what he or she is doing. This is why it’s best that you use your mastered slingshot. It is your slingshot that will lead you to financial success. If I were to conduct business today, I would not try to do something I am not good at. I would stay with what I know best. Stay with the five smooth stones that have brought you victory in the past. If you use them in the day of your greatest financial challenge, you shall prosper! Even when choosing business partners and workers, go for someone that you’ve known for a number of years. Choose someone whose character you can vouch for.
Principle #4: The power of good association.
Association is a very important part of success. The more you interact with successful people, the more successful you will become. Do not isolate yourself. When you do, you are easily targeted and destroyed. People doing well in life, are often found associating. Relate with people ahead of you. Befriend successful people. You will become a successful person because you have made the right associations. When you are attacked, your association is attacked and it is your association that will stand tall and fight for you. There is strength in numbers!
Principle #5: Using wisely what you have today.
It is important to walk in wisdom when success comes your way. Many people are deluded into thinking that problems belong to those who are broke and defeated. In fact, in the life story of David, David’s troubles did not begin until after he killed Goliath. After one breakthrough came a host of problems. Therefore, you should never take things for granted when you experience your first success. Do prepare for attacks. To whom much is given, much will be expected of him.
There are so many people today who although inherited a lot of money, the inherited money did not profit them. Possibly, they did not know how to handle their new found riches. They ruined what they inherited until they had to sell all their properties to pay their debts. Most people go wild when they experience one or two successes. Many businesses do not bloom because the owners do not utilize the opportunities that come their way wisely. Believe in the best for yourself, but you should wait for the right time to enjoy the blessings that are rightfully yours.
